Places Beyond Question

I celebrate that there are places which bring forth clarity and simplicity in me. I’m far from alone in this: most of us have beautiful, personal places of refuge where everything feels right and just seems to make sense. When we’re in one of them, priorities are clear. We know where we’re meant to be, who we’re meant to be with, what we’ve come to this life to do. If only for a moment, we’re fully immersed in the acute sense that this precious moment is the only one that’s real. All other times and cares recede like the trailing edge of a wave returning to sea.

I’ve been blessed to have many of those places of refuge. I have more than I know, in fact, because I’ve even found those moments of simple clarity in places I’d never before visited. There are still places so pure and natural that I’m instinctively aligned with them, and thus with myself. There are places so instantly familiar and right that they deserve the name “home,” whether or not I live there.

It’s not just that such places and moments give me answers. It’s that I lose all need for questions. There are no solutions because there is nothing to solve. It is simply a beautiful, perfect moment, in which I’m restored to a sense of belonging too easy to lose under the layers of the modern world. Tonight it’s the lakeshore, simply watching the early summer sun go down. For this gorgeous transient moment, I’m again in a place beyond question. May you also find a moment of such simplicity this day, every day.

Breathing deep into the moment everything else just falls away except the right here right now. Its a good place to be, especially when surrounded by the beauty of nature or good friends! Thank you Eric!

I always love you blogs, Eric, but this one is so powerful. Short and to the point - love it. These places of refuge are so vital to not only our ability to center and reenergize, but these days to just stay sane, with all that is going on in the world. Thanks for making me realize that it is okay to "just be" and not get caught up in solving the world's problems.

Well said, Eric. Over my life, I have been blessed to find many places where I feel "I belong here". Beautiful places surrounds us. All we have to do is slow down and take the time to "see", and more importantly, to feel. Always enjoy your essays, Eric, please keep sharing. Thank you.
